Assistant Coach For Young Athlete


Location: Palo Alto/Stanford, CA
Position Type: Part-Time/Seasonal

Desired Skills and Experience

  1. Athletics or Running Background:
    Familiarity with running techniques, training programs, or competition preparation.
    Preferred: USATF Level 1 Certification or equivalent coaching credentials.
  2. Youth Coaching Experience:
    Previous experience coaching or mentoring youth is highly valued but not mandatory. Enthusiastic individuals with a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
  3. Skills in Training and Development:
    Ability to design and guide fitness routines, provide mental preparation for competitions, and adapt to the needs of diverse athletes.
  4. Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    Strong ability to engage with young athletes and their families, provide clear feedback, and foster a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with Training Sessions
    Lead warm-ups to prepare athletes physically and mentally for training.
    Supervise training activities, ensuring athletes stay focused and follow proper techniques.
    Provide support to the head coach during practice sessions.
  2. Competition Day Support
    Help manage team coordination and logistics on race days.
    Support athletes with tactical execution and mental readiness.
    Assist in ensuring smooth operations during competitions.
  3. Parent Communication
    Act as a bridge between parents and the coaching team.
    Relay updates about training progress, schedules, and athlete performance.
  4. Role Variations Between Training and Competition Seasons
    During competition preparation, ensure training efficiency and adapt plans to support performance goals.

Ideal Personality Traits

  1. Friendly and approachable, especially with young athletes.
  2. Highly responsible, detail-oriented, and patient, with the ability to adjust to each athlete’s needs.
  3. Proactive and problem-solving, able to work independently when needed.

Flexible Schedule:

  1. Training Sessions: Typically scheduled between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday (9:00am-11:00am).
  2. Competition Demands: Primarily occur during the seasons of March to June and September to November.
  3. Daytime Availability: Additional hours required during the day to respond to emails and communicate with parents.

Compensation

Starting at $20 per hour, with potential increases based on experience and performance.
